Illustrative Module Session Plan - Standard Days Method (SDM)
The session plan summarizes how the resources and documents in the module should be used to achieve the learning objectives. Each section of the session plan addresses a module topic, such as characteristics of SDM or who can use SDM. The slides to be shown with each section and appropriate handouts are identified. The SDM module is divided into three sessions:
- Session I is on the characteristics of SDM and includes key points for providers and clients, effectiveness, mechanism of action, determining the fertile window, using CycleBeads® and the paper-based version of SDM;
- Session II contains information on conditions relating to fertility awareness methods, when SDM is most successful, screening to see if SDM is appropriate for the couple, using SDM with partner’s support, when to start SDM and case studies on SDM eligibility;
- Session III is on counseling and providing SDM. It includes practice teaching CycleBeads® and the paper-based version of SDM, how to monitor cycle length, supporting the couple’s use of SDM, involving men, managing fertile days, key messages for clients and providing support for continuing users.
The Illustrative Training Schedule provides a snapshot of the breakdown of the module by day, time, and topic covered.
